Hi everybody, I had a mate over a couple of weeks ago to show me his starview box. we tried it on the tv in the sittingroom and then upstairs in my bedroom. It worked fine. I was so impressed that i purchased one myself this week. Only problem is that it will only find a signal on the cable downstairs and not in my bedroom (even though his worked fine in both rooms). His is the old starview while i bought the newer version "The Box". Would this have anything to do with it? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It should work in your living room if thats where the main cable is , Have you got any channels at all ? And they both work the same way so it could be something to do with what version is installed on "THE B0X" .. If you can go to Menu > System Information and lets know what API is installed and we can try help you from there. Sorry your post was missed or overlooked
Thanks for answering my query celtic. Yeah it works fine in the sittingroom, 150 odd channels downloaded sucessfully but when i bring it upstairs it just comes up "no signal" on every channel. And like i said before my mates worked on both connections
Most likely theres a splitter somewhere on the cable line, see if you can find it, and replace it with a better quality one. A cheap splitter will cause you mega hassle.
A good splitter will maintain 75ohm's on the cable after the split. Most likely your mates box has a higher tolerance for a not so perfect signal, And maybe the one you bought will only accept perfect signal. With the coax in your bedroom plugged directly into the tele, how good is the reception ? any snow or shadows ?
yeah actually its pretty shit. lots of snow. for somebody to fix this problem and doesnt know much about technology how would he go about doing it??? Cheers
Your best bet is Peats of parnell st, They have a decent one for 9euro Part # 690915 Before you buy anything, check the coax connector in your room, and at the splitter, if any of the outer shield is touching the inner core it'll cause a shitty picture, check that first.
cheers, you've been a great help. But exactly what am i asking for and what do i do with it? (sorry for being such an idiot)!!
Firstly, you'll have to locate the existing splitter, probably in the attic. Then see how many outputs it has on it, you need to get a better quality one with the same amount of outputs on it. But definitely check the condition of the connectors first.
