I know this topic has been discussed in a lot of threads, but I still haven't found a fix. My backup of Tomb Raider won't work, I ripped to hd using smartripper, used infoedit to get the ifo & vobs needed and copied vobs & ifo 1 & 2 and VIDEO_TS.IFO to new folder and burned to cd using Nero 5.5.5.6. Dvd works fin on any PC Dvd drive but not on any settop dvd player. I'm sure I have left something out but I can't figure it out.

Have you tried it with different Media - trust me, it makes a big difference.

Did you GET VTS Sectors also with IfoEdit?

I have tried some media, however I am using pioneer (japan) media and I have another dvd which uses this media and works fine, also forgot to say that my backup of tomb raider does contain both VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.
    Thanks

AUDIO_TS folder is not required anyway - its not even on a lot of mainstream movies.

Did you get VTS Sectors though?

I opened the Video_ts.ifo with infoedit and pressed the get VTS sectors. I think that all I had to do. But when I put the disk into my settop, it just spits it back out saying to check disk.

I think your problem could be in the burning. I use Nero to burn, but version 5.5.9.0 and use the DVD Video Wizard.

Hi Vinster, I think you're right, but I have tried using recordnow Dx and it wont let me record so I used nero, the disk looks as if it has everything it needs on it so there must be a setting in nero that I need to check/uncheck. btw do you leave the juliet box checked when you're recording dvd-r.
    thanks

Nero 5.5.9.0 was more aimed specifically at the DVD recording to try and get the edge - using the wizard within that sets everything needed for a DVD to be played (correct juliet, ISO, UDF settings etc.)

Try downloading the upgrade from their website (www.ahead.de) and see if it makes a difference.

Use the latest version of NERO and use the last DVD template - DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO). Don't forget to create the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories at the root. Copy all the ifo/bup/vob files into the VIDEO_TS directory.

Nero should create the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories automatically, however, you don't need an AUDIO_TS directory if manually creating it.

I've upgraded to the latest version of nero and copied all the files (ifo, vob, bup) using the wizard, but still it doesn't work when I put it into my set top player. will my backup work on my pc if the ifo files are not properly corrected? if so why?

If you have Record Now DX as you said, the best way to proceed - and the only one that gives me 100 % success is to first create image file using IFOEdit, then to burn image file directly via Record Now DX rather than to burn from a folder...

This way to proceed really solved all my issues and I do mainly success now... Hope this helps

I have tried to use record now dx, but when I record the files/folders, I get an error saying bad disk, I looked up the log file and the error say that the files are not in the right format for a dvd. What am I doing wrong????
    Thanks for your help

I'm new to DVD burning, but I just got my first rip to play in my Pioneer DVD player.

I was burning with Nero in my Pioneer A-04, but although the discs worked fine in my computer, none of them worked in the stand alone player.

Today, I converted a rip from smartripper to a disc image in Spruceup & then burned it with Prassi DVD Pro & it works perfectly.

SOORY, I meant that im burning, ifoediting etc the same way using the same brand (choice 2x), some will play on the philips and others on the ps2 and visa-versa ? So, why will some play on each and not all if all are done the same way ?

I got the dvd to work on the set top player, what I did is rippped the original with smartripper, stripped out what I didn't need with infoedit and wrote an image file, then I burnt the image with record now dx. I really think that most peoples problems with playing on set tops comes from the way nero writes the udf format.
Thanks for all the great reply's guys

I agree, when I burn with Nero my discs do not work in my Pioneer settop player although they work fine in my computer.

If I make a disc image with Spruceup & then burn with Prassi DVD Pro, the discs work in anything including my sons x-box(& the x-box is super finicky about copies)
