I have recently started my PC from scratch, HOWEVER when I imported files from an external hard disk, they all seem to be MPEGS, Why???

Plus the name of the file has changed e.g 21st Birthday.wma
    21st Birthday.uvi

Instead there is just 21st Birthady

Have I made smething a default??? nothing will play

sorry if this reply seems to treat you like you know nothing, i really have no way of knowing your skill level... :)

    are you saying that,

a)the files' extensions are changing from WMA to UVI or
    b)the files' extensions are disappearing?

if the case is A, that doesnt make any sense. if its B, thats fine cause a fresh install of windows (it kinda sounds like thats what you did) often has it set to hide filename extensions, so a file will look like "Pirates of the Carribean" instead of "Pirates of the Carribean.avi" this doesnt mean that all your videos converted to mpegs, or that anything changed, even if all your videos suddenly play with a different player. if you wanna see all the extensions (in xp) again goto 'my computer', 'folder options', 'view', and under 'advanced settings', uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types', then ok.

if nothing plays you probably need to install new players and codecs. fresh installs of windows often cant play many video files. if you think thats the case, let me know and i can give some help in that regard...

let me know if thats what you were looking for. its kind of difficult to know exactly what your problem is....

    Thanks Chuck555,

yeah I did want to know how to display extensions, but don't know why they are mpg's instead of wma's, I havn't converted them, nevermind.

Why can't I import mpg's in to nero anymore??? when they are a supported file type?!?

    cheers! Shaun
