I'm new to this but have learned how to use dvd shrink, anydvd, imgbrn, alcohol, etc in copying dvd's in the recent weeks. However, I had a dvd that was 7.2 gigs in total. I didn't want to shrink it so I made an image using Alcohol and AnyDVD and then went out and bought some dual layer dvd's. I used Alcohol 120% to burn the full image on to a dual layer dvd. It finished with "Burned successfully". I put it in my Panasonic home theater system dvd player and it just sits there saying "Reading..." I put it in my computer dvd player and at first it looked like it was going to work - it showed me the root menu page - but when I clicked Play on the DVD menu button it froze up Windows Media Player and almost froze up my computer as well until I ejected it. My question is Why? Why would it say "Burned Successfully" and then not work? These dual layer dvd's are expensive! I can't afford to screw around and ruin them. I'd appreciate any ideas on how to go about burning these successfully in the future. Does Alcohol 120% not work well? or ?
p.s. I used Memorex dvdR DL made in Taiwan. Is this most likely the problem? (Bonus question: If this is likely the culprit, why would a company make dvd's that don't work, and can I get my money back?)
If you peruse these forums when it comes to DL there are at least three things that are very important: 1. A newer burner 2. Verbatim +R DL media 3. ImgBurn for your final burn. Try reading the appropriate guides. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showforum=4
Another thing to check is whether or not you Panasonic Home Theater system is rated to read DVD-DL. Some of the older players won't. If it froze in both your HTS and your PC I'd say it's a bad burn. Ditto what MysticE said.
Thanks. That gives me something to start with. Stupid me: I thought if I used a new burner (which I did) and buy dvd's at the store and use a good burner (Alcohol 120) it would work. Now I see that I was wrong. I'll try what you said. And read the link.
