When I go to the Windows Update page in IE, it just stops loading and IE freezes. The page loaded perfectly before, but it stopped loading now. This happened when I was installing the main windows update component and I shut the downloading of the main update component down because it was stuck at 0% for about 30 mins. When I restarted my copmuter, and I tried going back into Windows Update, the IE freezing problem started happening. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Thx!

If you have it installed, try systemrecovery in windows help!
set your pc back to a point in time when there were no problems!

    Try these methods:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=193385
I had a similar problem a while back, clearing the browser cache and erasing the contents of the Windows Update folder as per the above link worked for me.

    retro,

I had already thought of using System Restore, but I can't do that, since I installed some VERY important programs after the windows update problem, which in turn, I cannot reverse any of those programs.

    Xian,

no luck, I tried everything on the page. I thought that the deleting the WindowsUpdate folder might help, but I can't find it....

Have you tried right-clicking on "My Computer", select "Properties" and select the tab labeled, "Automatic Updates"?

Then choose which option that suits you. The little windows update icon should appear on your task bar on the bottom right. A balloon might pop-up when you hover your mouse over it...

tried that...actually one of the first things I tried...but when I click Automatic Updates, it freezes just like Internet Explorer does while going on the Windows Update page.

Thx for the ideas so far!

    Any others!!??

Are you spyware/adware/malware and virus free?
    Is your firewall blocking windowsupdate?
Have you tried using an alternative web browser that can access windows update, such as Avant Browser?

The Windows Update folder is hidden, it should be in C:\Program Files\
You might have to go to the Tools menu in My Computer, select the View tab, then go down and toggle the Show hidden files and folders option.

if your using a cracked serial sometimes it wont let you update. let me know, there are ways of updating it without formatting. You can thank M$ for encouraging the growth of vulneralble unpatched machines!!

nope, it let me update before, so I am able to update.

Windows Update is the easiest way to update, and I dont want to reformat since I just did about 5 days ago, since my internet wasnt working.

    Anything else :-(
