Why is it better to burn DVD +R and booktype the simply burn DVD -R?

This has been the subject of way too many threads and way too many posts ... just do some searching and let this Godforsaken topic die ...

Oh, and by the way, there's a link in my sig explaining why DVD+R is the superior format ...

Sorry guys for posting such an dumb founded and obvoius question.

I was kinda of hoping someone would be kind enough to link something so I may do more research, but what I did not realize that along with a link a person would pull in such criticism!!

One of the things I like about this site is the archive of knowledge, unfortunaly, there are more old posts then there is time to go through them. Thats when who hope someone would pop in and help with placing a link.

My title as "newbie" denotes "new" as a registered member being able to post to the forum. It does not denote "new" to the computer thing. I have lurked here (and elsewhere) for quite some time before actually signing up.....thus "newbie". As of late, there is a noticeable chill in the air with all the sarcastic replies given to "newbies" as if they were something you stepped in outside a bar. Perhaps some forget the day when they were newbies and were only too glad to receive informed replies from the older, wiser members of this forum. However, the oldtimers seem to have moved on and left the torch to a less caring bunch....certainly not all, but more than what should be answering queries on this forum. Maybe these newbie folks really are new to this ripping of DVDs and are totally ignorant and in need of some less snarky replies. If the questions pi$$ you off that much....don't reply! Ignore! I know where I live, a reply similar to the ones doled out lately would get you a few Chiclets missing. Before answering rudely, stop and think of how YOU would feel getting such a reply. You know who you are! It's close to Easter and I'm nervous...:>)

@ Creaky....Believe me when I say I don't know how you manage it. I browse several times daily and my head spins. It is unfortunate that people must be rude in replies, but I guess that's our future. It isn't just this particular thread, but everywhere. People preface their questions with "I know I'm dumb, I hope this the right place" and on and on. Geez...seems like people are beginning to be scared to ask questions for fear of being stomped on. Sure would hate to see the decline in this place due to something like that.....so much intelligence here to lose! You stop learning when you die! I belong to numerous 18th century re-enacting forums and they too are being taken over by folks that think they can pi$$ higher on the fence than everyone else. Before jumping on the keyboard to get your posts higher or be a smart-a$$, stop for a minute and use that thing you store your cap on.

I don't know where the threatening etc. comes into the conversation!
    But...that's step 2 if 1 doesn't seem to register.

No one is forgetting about the time they were 'newbies.' In fact, I'll speak on behalf of older members and say it doesn't matter who posts the question because if a question like "What's the difference between +R or -R?" that person will be ripped a new one because it's such an old question. In fact, a senior member or addict would be ripped worse than a noob because it's such a ridiculous question.

To discover the answer concerning the difference between +R and -R, all you gotta do is search within the site. Hell, you can search through Google and find an abundance of answers.

The questions was NOT "what is the difference between +R and -R" as put fourth by you Mr_Pink. I think you just wanted to post your opions on rediculasly asked newbie questions.....Read your last opinionated line.

Just for the record, I was wanting OPINIONS from actual users as to why they felt +R (w/booktyping) was better then -R (no booktying)for DVD burning. Are we talking quality issues (better video) here or just better playability in stand alone players?

Seemed to me like a simple request. But perhaps I did not make myself clear enough.

And for those of you who said us lazy newbies should do a little research or digging or goggling ..........before posting simple (or perhaps wrongly phrased) questions. I might remind some of you that in most every case, that had been done, only to no avail. And some answer you may find comes close but does not fit your actual situration. You do all of this weeding through garbage (sometimes hours) before finding your answer, and alot of us, including myself, wished we had that much time everyday.

What ever happend to friendlyness?? I mean come on!! Peoples patience these days seems to be wearing thin, and for what? Over information?

i'll tell you a secret, i haven't got a load of time to sift thru forum stuff in my workdays, but i manage to make enough time.. :)
not arguing by the way, i am on pretty much a different timezone to the other moderators so i try to keep the place clean even when i'm at work (and that's on top of searching thru forums for my own knowledge) :)

i'll try to not give anyone a hard time about searching in future but can't guarantee it as i see more threads/posts a day than a postman :)

Well, if you're gonna say that "What's the difference between +R and -R?" is actually different from "Why +R instead of -R?" then fine, I apologize. But if you know the difference between +R and -R, you'll know why people choose +R over -R.

Like you said it's because of the booktyping abilities. Otherwise, I have never heard anyone say that using +R increases the quality of the video. Not only is it because +R is newer, and all the new players know what it is, but since it can be written as Rom, it fools the player into thinking it's a commercial DVD. Again, many of the members would use the +R instead of the -R because of this difference.

From one forum newbie to another, I hope you were able to sift through and get the information you wanted. It's all here, you just have to sift.

You won't usually get such swift upset answers, but searching for a lot of things helps. I've only started a few threads because I have a LOT of questions and only a couple aren't already here over and over. Basic rule that's kept this place friendly for me is to always use the searchbar with a few different phrase combinations etc for the problem before asking.
