Yes, why I can't burn my dvds on 1x speed? Only 6x and 8x. The discs support it, the burner supports it. Once i managed to burn on 1x but why not anymore? I'm using dvd+r discs.

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

    ...yup, spot on...

    ...processing...

    - firmware's a few versions behind.. KS0B is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2056

    - DMA needs to be ON, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - i'm guessing those a re TDK discs, TDK have a nasty habit of using widely differing quality in manufacturers. those 'MBIPG101' discs are not what i'd call very good quality

    - i had this same problem with the firmware on this drive. (For a slightly different problem i had 2 of these drives and reported both as faulty then bought LG drives instead). Anyway, the firmware on the 1693S seems to be lacking at the moment, there's a few threads on this, and i had the same problem with MCC003 discs (Verbatim Datalifeplus 8x +R discs; they would only burn at 6x and 8x). i guess you're gonna have to keep checking back at that link for new firmware updates as hopefully Lite-On will get there act together soon.

Here's a couple more links to keep an eye on too -
