I can't say that "I hate Nero" because I use nearly every applications from Nero to backup most of my movies. I primarily used Nero Recode 2 to transcode movies, Nero Burning Rom to burn my movies and PS2 games backups, Nero Express to burn CD and DVDs, Nero Vision to "convert & transcode" AVI into DVD, Nero ShowTime to watch movies/dvds and AVI movies, Nero CD-DVD Speed to scan my backups for quality.

However, there are "few" times that I doesn't like it due to the fact that their updates are having too many bugs.

well maybe hate is too stronger word I do use nero 6 quite a bit mainly for burning dvd's
and thanks gwendolin that is the version of nero 6 that I have on my ghost image but it just pi**ed me off spending 4 hrs off wasted time putting one of my boxes back online
I dont think I will trying nero 7 again in a hurry as they say in the classics "if it aint broke dont try to fix it" I was happy with nero 6
and the basis of this post was just to warn other users that things can go wrong when you install software in this case nero 7

So far my experience with Nero 7 has been uneventful...no problems, no glitches, nothing..period. I do know that most people that are trying to use keygens and other borrowed versions of the software seem to be running into some strange issues; and are now in the process of discovering what registry changes need to be made to get their borrowed copies upgraded to 7.08.2 (Yes, with 7.0.8.2 updated, a bunch of things don't work if you haven't manually updated the registry - the product key activation algorithm has been changed and a pirated version of Nero 7 is currently pretty much useless.)

For software that you use, and to save yourself the apparent problems, buy the full versions; but maybe I have just been a lucky guy and have missed the serious issues 7.0 is reported to have. But I did buy my copy.

Hey Phil, I have to agree with you on the new 7 version of Nero. I tried the new 7 Trial Version myself. Fortunately for me, I didn't have the same problem reinstalling my Nero 6 Ultra Edition.
My turn off with 7 right away was when I was going to recode a dvd, I went to rename the title and it defaulted back to DVD MOVIE. Sure, I know I can rename the file before importing it . . . I think you know where I'm going with this.
    Lack of Operational Control.

I saw many ppl having problems with a version of nero 7 including my buddy alkohol. I waited until this version 7.0.8.2 came out, and saw that ppl were having success with it. Updated, and no problems so far. I like version 7, but this is nero, so anything can happen.
I'll throw in my thought about Nero one liner just for giggles:
[bold]I like Nero, it reminds me of an ex-wife i had. Tempermental, cranky, un-forgiving, cold, calculating, psychotic, but sweeeeet when everything was perfect..:)

I have never had any problems with any of the versions. I use 7 for everything. The problem with the crash could be to another program you have on your system that doesn't like Nero and vice versa. If you are like me you like to try different software packages to see how they work. I have a test system for that purpose instead of running on a production system.

My comments on Nero 7 have been well and truly documented throughout this forum - Here some folks are actually talking about the free/trial version.

In my case I actually forked out good money for this rubbish! It took more than 3 months to get the installer to work - not even Nero technical support ould tell me what their beloved P_o_S ver 7 is supposed to do vis a vis installation support. Turns out you cannot install to a compressed drive (or more particularly a compressed temp folder!). Got the answer right here on AD by re-visiting an old thread as it turns out.

When I did finally get it installed - absolutely nothing worked............. buffer underrun on USB2 external DVD burner, lousy quality ripping of music Cd's to wave. Recode didn't work and Vision gave me trouble. 4 hours with it installed were more than enough.

Rubbish is a complete understatement vis a vis Nero 7. Even more so Nero and their so called customer and technical support. Add to this the fact that they will not refund your money for a program that does not install and when you eventually (via a third party) find out what the problem is and do get it installed, the program is utterly useless. That is called fraud - and also theft my friends! Sod German Law! This is a very badly programmed P_o_S and the so called programmers seemingly have not taken into account that many of us compress our drives for space requirements - even worse is that they seemingly don't have a clue that such things as External USB2 Burners exist. Brilliant, considering their product is supposed to be software targeted at that very product.

Nero 6 - fantabulous. Why is 7 not available in separate packages???? My onereservation about 6 was it's lack of support for WMV. I finally discovered that a plug-in was available for this and downloaded it last night. Have yet to try it, that said. As one or two have mentioned here and there: "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"

Where Nero are concerned I admit to having beenvery, very naiive. Will never be quite so naiive with them ever again. Might as well just send them a donation cheque and forget about receiving anything back form them.

Nero tech support sux or is just not there. AD provides better support in the Nero forum, and we work there for free. 6x is in many ways a much better program than 7, but it is slowly not being supported. That and when both the 6x and 7x versions came out that BOTH had bugs, showed me they use us, the consumer as beta testers for their stuff. I hate buggy programs. For 6x i use 6.6.0.18 and for 7x i use 7.0.8.2. They work for me, and i think i can update 7x, but i have seen ppl report problems with the latest 7x version also. Id rather have a stable version that might not have all the latest improvements, if the latest improvements comes with major bugs also.
Still, just like a bad marriage, i stick with it. Nero and i havent filed divorce papers yet, but i use CloneDVD2 for most of my movie copies, and rarely use nero for anything other than burning some CDs or MP3 disc. Once in a while i will use recode or Vision.
Yep, Nero may be a POS, but its the best POS out there.. LOL :)
