Ive tried Alcohol 120% and DVD Decrypter and on both the slowest the DVDs burn at is 6x (I just bought this pack). I put in one of my Memorex blank DVDs, and they burn at 2x just fine! What's wrong? Do certain Verbatim versions only burn at a minimum of 6x??? Because I need to burn something at 2x, but I dont wanna use Memorex (heard bad things) help please.

Well if they burn just fine... use them.

ImgBurn uses the same burning engine as DVD_Decrypter but it has been updated to handle newer burners and discs. In there you will find the disc information such as media i.d. and the rated burning speeds. It will also give you information about your burner. You may need to update your firmware.

why do you need to burn at 2x? if your Verbatim burns at 6x it's because the burner you have is recognizing the write strategies for that Verbatim disk to be burned at 6x. So, again...... why the burning speed to be at 2x for your Verbatim disks? Do you know that burning too slow on the newer media will cause reading errors and other problems?! the Verbatim disks, what speed are they? 8X, 16X? Again ...... why do you need to burn at 2x? Is it because you have an old DVD writer that needs to burn at 2x? If so use old media only unless you updated your firmware.

Firmware for your burner as that sets new write strategies for new media thats out..

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. Every company has its own methods to allow you to do a firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. To find you firmware go to your burner homepage and find the firmware for you make and model.

I do not suggest to keep using those Memorex (aka MEMOSUX) media. Even if you do get a good burn they won't last! Usually comes up with reading errors down the road; along with skipping, pixelations, and freezings! Rule of thumb is to use [bold]Made In Japan[/bold] disks.... like Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Sony, Fuji..... read the lable on the spindle or box! MIJ rule is a guide to stick by for best results..... the only exception to this rule is Verbatim (top notch media made in Taiwan/Singapore - the only good media coming out of Taiwan).

Hi All, I have a similar question to the one above. Please can anyone help, I just bought a new p4 (2.2 Ghz, 512 MB memory) and I can seem to get my LG GSA-4120B to write to DVD-R's. I could previously write it on my old PC (quite old P2 333Mhz), but now its impossible. I can write to DVD+Rs. I've read quite a few forums and most suggestions point towards ASPI. Please can anyone help as i have a stack of DVD-R's at home waiting to be written on.

    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters...om=&bdrom=&orderby=Name&hits=50&Search=Search

this is your burner...... this is in a new computer? why doens't it burn 16x disks? maybe there is an update on the firmware that will allow you to burn 16x disks. the latest firmware is A117 as of Aug. 2005. Seems that your new computer has an older burner! what are the DVD-R disks? 4x,8x,16x and what is the media ID of those disks?

I would also put more RAM in that computer .... it does help when burning DVDs!

Thanks for the Tip. I've updated the firmware, but it still won't burn. The writer is from my old pc, and i used it a couple of times to write to DVD-R. Anyways, i'm using a Fujifilm 8x DVD-R and I thought maybe someone can help if they check the log file i saved from Nero below.

why would you buy a new computer and put your old writer in when new writers cost only $35 and up and you wouldn't have this problem! and maybe it's hooked up wrong?!
also those Fujifilm disks are second rate at best and most of those are CMC Mags---crappy media! if they are 8X disks try burning at half the rated speed which would be 4X. but if your computer isn't burning disks with your writer then no speed matters.

Hi There, thanks for the reply. The only reason i'm still using that Writer is that it worked pretty well with my old PC. Yesterday, i bought a few DVD+R and tried them, they all worked, which means the problem definitely isn't with the connection. If its not a firmware or software or hardware problem, them i wonder waht it coiuld be?

maybe it's the writer that doesn't like the -Rs!!!!! it's old.... you should replace it with something that will work better and last longer.
