If you have a widescreen display(crt, lcd, plasma, dlp, etc.) then 16:9 is the aspect ratio, but not all movies are 16:9. http://www.widescreen.org/aspect_ratios.shtml [bold]Why do you ask?[/bold]
When I'm converting movies from DivX to DVD, I get a prompt asking for the Aspect (Auto, 4:3, or 16:9).
You probably should have posted in the Divx forum. http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/41 Sorry, I'm not familiar with the divx format. I'll see if one of the mods will move this thread to the appropriate forum.
Flip what're you doing? LoL ;^) This forum is DVD to DivX - the fellow is asking about rather the opposite. We have a DivX to DVD forum http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/40 Juaneryle, movies playback as either pan & scan or 'letterbox'. A standard computer monitor is 4:3 which is fine for pan & scan content, but must letterbox the widescreen content. Movies come in 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 aspect ratios. For either one, you should select 16:9 You can see that a 16:9 monitor will playback a 1.85:1 film almost perfectly :^) For a wide Panavision scope (2.35:1) there will still be small black bars top & bottom. Regards
Hey that's okay! (nobody's perfect). That would be... wrong, since he is converting movies from DivX to DVD, and we have a DivX to DVD forum (and this is now in it!) If his question is in the right forum it will of course be answered better, L8R
