Wiikey and 4.0u

    I have an NTSC Wii with Wiikey 1.9g running 3.2u at the moment.

    I have the homebrew channel installed along with a handful of VC games installed using the wadmanager launched via the homebrew channel.

    Can i safely update to 4.0u via wifi without affecting my ability to install additional wads or use the homebrew channel??

    Will i loose any functionality by updating to 4.0u??

    I dont play games signed with trucha so I will have no issues there. I just want to make sure I can continue to use the wadmanager and homebrew channel after updating to 4.0u

    It is safe ONLY if you have Waninkoko's cIOS installed, which can be found here. If you have that installed, every thing should be functioning fine after update. If by chance something does NOT work (backup loader, installing WADs) after the update, then follow my post on this page. It explains everything. Hope that helped!

    What about upgrading to 3.4u? does that also cause the same issues as 4.0u

    I ask cause I dont want to install a cIOS unless I have to. The modchip already allows games to play so I am good there, I just have been unable to play a few new ones for fear of updating.

    I have a softmodded Wii that has a cIOS installed and it works fine. Plays all backups,and still allows me to install wads and use the HBC.

    I just am unable to play a few newer games on the modded console (PunchOut, Guitar Heroes Smash Hits) cause I am scared to accept the system update for fear it will update me to 4.0u

    I understand that the games I mentioned only update to 3.4u and 4.0u is only available via wifi or manually downloading the update from Nintendo. Can I safely update to 3.4u, and do you know of any games that update a system to 4.0u or is that update still wifi and manual download only??

    Nah don't worry - just install the cIOS, update, and enjoy. Everything should work fine and dandy. I believe you should update to 4.0 because it will be compatible with the latest games out there, and this is a surefire way of approaching it. Let me know how it turns out :)
