Hi All, I plan to buy a wii with modchip, one shop propose a wii old model that can use wiikey and another shop propose wii new model with possibility to use D2CKey. Which model do you recommand to buy, the new or old one? Thanks, Jackoko....
Wiikey can be upgraded via DVD and has a settings disc via DVD. D2CKey is a first gen D2C Modchip which is a little more limited. You can not update via DVD and it has no settings via disc option. It can be upgradeable but there would be a little more work in making it upgradeable via Jtag. If they offered a D2Pro2 instead of a D2CKey then I would go with the D2Pro2 instead of Wiikey or D2Ckey. But if your choice is between Wiikey/D2Ckey then I would stick with Wiikey.
I read in some forum or review, d2ckey offer a great compatibility, almost all games can be played and the chip cannot be dectected by wii, is it true?...
When deciding on a Modchip you should look at all aspects. The aspect that puts a Wiikey/Cyclowhiz/D2Pro2/ARGON/Infectus above D2CKey is all of them offer DVD upgrade and setup disc along with DVD upgrade D2Pro2/ARGON/Infectus as well offer a Jtag base upgrade option. As for compatibility and stealth most all modchips are the same.
sorry, gonna be a noob question but whats the advantage of upgrading with a dvd or change settings via dvd? I have a Wii with D2C and I am 100% satisfied... but is there something im missing out on? Ive had no compatibility issues with any of the games... and I just update through the internet... could someone explain to me the whole DVD thing with the wiikey that somebody was talking about as a big reason to get wiikey over d2c? thanks!
The advantage is you can update the Modchip via DVD. There are 3 main Modchips that the Wiikey team offer... Wiikey Which is for DMS/D2A/D2B chipsets and can be updated via DVD + has config disc. D2CKey which is for D2C chipsets (1st Gen Modchip for D2C) which they claim can be updated via Jtag programmer (D2Prog). D2Pro2 which is for D2C/D2C2 chipsets (2nd gen modchip for D2C). Which can be updated via DVD and Jtag + has config disc. Updating a Wiikey or D2Pro2 is as simple as inserting a DVD and updating. D2Pro2 users have an added option that usses a flat cable connected to a clamp on the Modchip and update it via D2Prog. Since the D2CKey is not DVD upgradable and does not have a clamp that you can insert a flat cable you will have to solder the Flat cable to the Modchip to get it to program. Keep in mind D2CKey claim this can be done but as far as I know it has not been attempted. There has been no need for an update for D2Ckey yet but this can change easily in the future (Example #001 error). So a more future proof modchip is recomneded (D2Pro2). So the recommendation would be... Wiikey for DMS/D2A/D2B D2Pro2 for D2C/D2C2
