I have an xbox that has the evil flashing red and green eject button. It turns on and off 3 times, then flashes red/green on the last try. I dont know the history of the console but, this box appears to have never been opened since the stickers on the bottom were very clean and original looking, and the screw heads looked untouched. If the problem is a softmod gone bad, should a mod chip be able boot it regardless of what the softmod messed up? I installed a duox2gs chip and it still turns on/off 3 times and then flashes red and green.

Your best bet, without spending any money, would be to recover your eeprom and rebuild your hd..Thats what i would try..

A guy named ChunkHead should post on here soon and give you instructions on what to do...Very smart man, he will have you fixed in no time..
But i think hes gonna say the same thing i did, but he will give you tutorials and software..

Even with the mod chip installed with a cromwell bios, I get flashing red and green. Does that rule out eeprom or hard drive problems?

You have what's known as 'Xmas Tree'.

This is a corrupt BIOS bank normally!

This problem has never officially been solved or even aanswered!

A modchip sometimes works because it uses it's own BIOS, however other times it doesn't.

The console is probably dead! Motherboard i'd say!

Changing the HDD software will have no effect as it cannot even complete POST!

You can try the tutorial for "My Xbox turns itself on" in my tutorial section. It's currently working wonders...

Let me know how you get on!

I think I tried everything from installing a duox2 chip with evox preflashed on it, replaced DVD drive, replaced HD, replaced psu, swapped IDE & DVD power cables... still no luck. I think I'm done with this motherboard. Thanks for all your help.

Hey Chunkhead, I tried your USB softmod tutorial with a homemade USB cable, an old 128mb thumbdrive, and picked up splinter cell for 2 bucks at the used game store. It's AMAZING! I haven't looked at softmodding for a long time and didn't realize how easy and powerful it became for xbox. I'll never use a modchip again! THANKS!!!!

    YES!!!

Did you get the USB memory card to work...?

If so please post your results in the tutorial thread, we are having compatibility issues!
