I'm looking into getting a PSP from the US.

Do you know if the US PSP will play the european games or will there be compatabilitity problems?

    thanks,

yes a psp can play any umd's from any country
UMD stands for universal media disc.
But for some reason shops wont allow the games if you trade them in?

actually the psp wont play all UMDS. It will play all UMD games from another country but you wont be able to play a UMD movie from another country. the UMD movies are the only ones that are region encoded.

Yeah that's wierd, cause my bro bought a umd off ebay that was from another country and it wouldn't play on mine when i had 2.6, but would on his (He also bought his psp online). so i had to downgrade to 1.5 then use devhook to emulate the firmware and it worked fine. Might've just been a one off thing though....

The 3 PSP Music UMDs out here in the US are region coded too. But All my games say region 1 even though they are region free.

I've opened/edited a few .bin and .sfo files within dumped iso's and found a few things that might be able to change the region code...all you'd have to do is change the number i reckon. but i don't have a foreign umd to try it.

no one buys the umd movies anyway...just encode them...region free...

some of em on ebay are fairly priced LCD's are one thing i dont carry to much of although i have to order about 4 of them in the near future to fix all these psp's lying around my room. if your backlight still works just get one of the ones without the backlight. they go for like 30 bux.

What if you used a Japenese or European firmware dump in Devhook?

too much effort over nothing. Sony are apparently discontinuing the umd movies anyway...so who cares.
