I was wondering if blu-ray movie would at least play on a standard tv I know it wont be in hi-def but would it play because there a movie coming out that I want but I don’t have a hi-def tv yet but I am getting one soon and I don’t want to buy it on both dvd and blu-ray. I have a ps3 and I know that its games play in both standard and hd with the right cables.

Im not sure what the PS3 decides to do if it cannot have a "HDCP Handshake" with the Display device.
HDCP will only be delivered over DVI or HDMI connections.
On a PC, if there is no HDCP handshake between the graphics card output and the HDTV then the software used to play the video will "clip" the resolution down to standard definition and allow it to be transmitted over VGA (analogue connection).
So, again, what does a PS3 do with Bluray if there is no HDCP handshake is your problem other than cable connection types.
