Will burning programs interrupt, ability to burn....

So recently I've downloaded every backup program availabe (dvddecryptor,dvdshrink,etc.)in an attempt to figure out how to backup my dvds (still no luck) meanwhile I have tried to copy some photo cds that I have and am getting a pop up after it is copied instructing me to enter a recordable disk the problem is I already have. I used one for another photo cd and it worked I don't understand why it is not acknowledging it now could it be these programs?
