I actually think there is a huge chance that the Fall Update has something in it! I was on IRC with the xbox modders, and they were saying that there is for sure something on it! But who really knows?!

I love all the newbs asking a question we can't answer yet, but also, I find it odd that people in the scene are saying there's a really good chance? How can you guess that? We really have no basis besides making a guess on a dashboard release there MIGHT be ban hammerings following it. I think it's all up in the air until it gets here and we see.

well actually when the dashboard update was leaked by accident one person did get it up and running on there x box 360 but you need a mod chip. He also hadn't connected to live because apparently it uses a different set of servers so no way to know if you will be banned, but there is hope.

I dont know wether it will have something or not but i know this.

i dont play on live so i dont have to worry about it...right?
Wrong cause what if i get a new game like gears 2 which is said will have the dashboard on the disc and u will have to update. so if u have to update and there turns out to be something built into the dashboard to detect..lets say flashed dvd drive or a chip install...if this is the case then it will not matter if u are on live or not or even connected to the net. so lets hope they dont program in something that will brick all our boxes if we have any mods. i wont be playing anything with the new dashboard untill i have heard from others what they are experiencing. i dont care if someone hands me a free copy of gears 2 lol ';..;'

Wow, let me assure you, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Unless you have a link from some extremely credible website, some theory like that is just ridiculous and should not even be on here.

The theory is wrong from a tech and business perspective.

Just think about the possibility of any single false positives. That would create even more of a huge PR nightmare than what MS already has. Additionally, people with modded systems (or flashed) do still purchase games/accessories for their system, hence, income for MS. If the box was bricked, I bet everytime it happens, people are less likely to get another MS product, leading to a potential loss of a customer.

That idea is wrong, and wouldn't make any sense.

Well, think about it, we don't need threads just talking about theories that are most likely not true. If you were to have something to back it up with, that's another story.

There's just no reason to post these what if scenarios because there are tons of them. that's my point.

    /thread

pretty much anything anyone says about the dash update in regard to being banned or what security it may have is going to be speculation....so in that logic why discuss it at all.

if u are going to bash people for having ideas and opinions and theories then we should all just stfu right now cause its pointless to discuss anything....

My opinion is that it will not affect flashed consoles.....there have been numerous updates that have done nothing, and if they had a solution to ban people....why would they just let us keep doing what we do?

People AREN'T guessing about what will happen, only you are!

Like I said, lets keep these dumb what if scenarios out and actually focus on realistic problems that are actually happening. We can then work to solve those problems rather than what if MS blocks your console or bricks it

sorry dude but im just sick of ppl who think they have the right to tell someone what they can and cannot say on the internet. if this update had been released already and we knew what was up with it i would not have answered with THEORIES but the question was asked about something we know little about so what else is there to do but SPECULATE AND MAKE ASSUMPTIONS. SO unless someone gave guesswho an internet police badge then yes he can continue to complain when someone doesnt provide footnotes on the sources of their information.

Fair enough....we all have rights to our opinions. Now when people do not use credible sources and provide false info, that is a different case. Opinions are great, that's all we have right now regarding this topic anyways. You changed my opinion of you, you kinda came across rude & annoying inyour 1st post.

When it says "I know this"... does that lead much to speculation? Obviously not...

    This is getting gay,

stealth say smart things before you post it. Otherwise you just come off ridiculous.

    I'm done with this

I have a pretty sound theory actually, I just signed up so I can maybe shed some hope/enlightenment on this whole discusion.

I think MS put Lite-on drives on the new 360 units to try and stop the modding. To my knowledge the only way to mod is to spoof the hardware into thinking you're using a Lite-on, when you've actually replaced it with an old drive+stealth firmware.

I would think, given the fiasco that happened with that last update they did, that they would not do an anti-mod fall update. I almost have enough faith in this to keep my box plugged in with ethernet... but I will rely on others, leave my box disconnected, and keep an eye out on forums/google until the storm passes :)

Well said, my thoughts exactly. If they really had an anti-mod update why wouldn't they utilize it before one of the biggest games of the year is released? GoW2
