hello, just got my psp from japan, its an original v1.50 with sharp screen.managed to get the language to english. ok here is what i want to know 1 will UMD movies that i buy in ireland play in this 2 will original UMD games that i buy in ireland play in this if the answer to any of these is no, will upgrading to the newer firmware allow me to do so. thanks
To Awnser your questions. 1) The movies that you buy in Ireland need to be the same region as your PSP, The Ireland UMD's should be the European region. As far as I know Both Europe and Japan fall into region 2. So therefore the UMD Movies should play. Im Sure you local gaming shop wont mind letting you try one to make sure. 2) Original UMD Games will play regardless of the region, The games are not region specific. Please note most of the latest games will require later firmware versions such Firmware 2.0 (Grand Theft Auto) And lastly Unless you plan on using Homebrew on your PSP your best bet would be to update. However If you update Past 2.0 (2.01 and 2.50) you cannot downgrade back to 1.5 Currently only 1.51, 1.52 and 2.00 Can be downgraded. So you have to choose between Homebrew and Original UMD Games.
