Hey guys, just registered with the site and love it so far. I just purchased an Inspiron 9300 notebook and it has a DVD burner. The software that comes with it is called Sonic DigitalMedia and MyDVD Plus. I am a total newbie with this stuff so will these programs suffice or will I need to purchase better software - if so which one?
I should note that I'm also running Windows Media Center 2005 (maybe that will copy and burn dvds?). If my software that came with the laptop is no good, could somebody point me to software that willmake things as easy as possible...I hear 1 Click DVD is good that way but what do I know...
Here a 2 good free proggys a lot of folks use (I used to as well before I moved up to the high end retail stuff). Dvd decrypter and dvd shrink. There are 2 good guides in my sig. Only use good, high quality media and keep burn speeds to 4x. Mort
Dont know about your software, but use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, both freeware, and available on this site. These are better because they help you compress your movies to fit on one blank DVD-R.
Thanks for the quick replies guys! Is there any difference between these two programs? And will my backed-up dvd play on my playstation 2?
Oh one final question...do these two programs actually burn to a DVD-r or do I need this Nero program people talk about...
Decrypter burns to dvd, nero is not necessary but recommended. For ps2 games use Decrypter, iso read then iso write AT 2x.
these two are all you will need and a good guide decrypter has it's own burning engine and nero is not free use these to get used to the process and as yyou progress you will learn to use new programs hang out here and let others know of your new found knowledge!! good luck!
On a side note, does anyone know if Sonic DigitalMedia and MyDVD Plus even serve a purpose? I'm starting to regret even purchasing them from Dell. SHould I uninstall them when I get my notebook? Finally, although I've asked this before, to those who have Playstation 2s: does your system usually play your burnt dvds (I'm not looking to burn games)?
@BrendanK your ps2 will read the dvd's just like it reads a retail dvd just make sure to use the -r format because some older ps2's had trouble w/ the +r's as far as your program's they are probably transcoders that will allow you to burn pictures or home video/vhs to dvd that you can watch on the stand-alone but you will be better able to tell me after testing them on your own term's they will probably burn non-copy righted matierial as well I have a vaio that came w/ click to dvd and I still use that to convert burn video I capture off the t.v. tuner.
Thanks once again for the help guys. Will it be difficult to back-up my season 1 of family guy. The reason I ask is because it's episodic. If it's not a prob which program would you recommend?
for simple convenience, i recommend DVD Shrink as well. welcome to the forums and happy burning, brendan.
Just throwing my 2 cents in if you have trouble decrypting newer DVDs with DVD Decryptor you might have to get AnyDVD to rip the newer ones cause DVD Decryptor isnt upgraded anymore. Also if you have a newer PS2 slimline you can use DVD+R disc. That is all i use and have had no trouble using them. But again it depends on what your PS2 drive likes. Do some testing find some DVD-R or DVD+R and when you get media that works well with your PS2 stick with it. When you do burn always burn at 4x or less.
