I am writing this for someone else. Please advice. The laptop in question is an HP ENVY, the OS is WIN10. NO CD's available. Is it possible to downgrade from 10 to 8.1? Will a cd work? More complicated than that? I can run the CD's as long as the machine lets me. Wifi connection. We are both stumpped. Can a third party do this provided he copies files onto a thumb drive or convetional hdd?

if this laptop came with windows 10 then downgrading could be a bi@ch.every time a new windows comes out we see these posts."hate windows @and want to downgrade.unless you want to enter the world of linux, get used to it.i look forward to reading subsequent posts detailing the problems with the downgrade.my advice, dont go there.

I will need to find the model number for you since this is not mine. I believe it came with 8.1 but was FORCED upgraded to 10. An error says "windows 8.1 is no longer available". MS has a downloadable ISO media which can be used to burn to a dvd or flash drive then move to internal hdd. Retail installation CDs with key are available. Will that work? Is the model specific "restore plus" cd also required? The file called "windows old" does not work nor is there a windoe that allows the OS to be rolled back as I have seen screen shots of. Since this is not mine there is not much I can do for him without your guidence. Thanks in advance.

60 is young. In a little over a month from now, I will have an 8 after that 6. But, I will be happy if I see it.

Well, I guess I'm a 'Smartass'... I've had 75 years of it... Seems a better choice than being a 'Dumbass"...
