Hello, Hopefuly someone can help me with this problem. I searched the board before posting and found nothing on my problem. I am using WinAVI 7.6 to convert .avi files to dvd. It doesnt take long (about 1 hr)to convert the file and it puts it on my hard drive as .vob files. The problem im having is when I would use cucusoft converter it would convert it to about 4.3-4.6gb mark and nero would not burn it because it said file was too big. Now when I convert with WinAVI it converts it to about 2.7gb and not all movies will play on the dvd player. I have a cheap dvd player and it plays everything but when i try it on a sony dvd player i get the error message "PLAYBACK feature may not be available on this disk." Is the program not authoring it right? What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance Alex
Does your DVD player normally play back burned discs, especially with the media you are using? I'm just curious if this is a media issue, as that's more often the case when dealing with standalone players. That said, that's an awfully big disparity between the results you were getting from Cucusoft and what you are getting from Winavi. Try looking at the settings under "Advanced" when converting a file. (I have noticed, however, that the proper options do not appear when "DVD" is selected to convert to, but they are when MPEG-2 is selected, so you MAY have to use some other software to convert to DVD-VOB and burn). Tweaking the quality may give you some insight as to what's causing this disparity.
Yeah well the dvd plater I have is a apex cheap $30 one. When i check the settings in WinAVI i have it set for Constant video size capacity is at 4700mb. Everything is else is pretty much auto. I didnt mind cucusoft converter but it would take forever and the WinAVI takes less than a hr. The only problem i was having with the cucusoft is the size of the file after converting. I have Nero 7 premium edition and the file would always go over just by barley anything into the red so it would not burn.
Can't you tweak your settings with Cucusoft? Maybe drop the bitrate a little? I don't know 'cause I've never used it. Just started using Winavi. However, I can't figure out why Winavi would output 2.7 Gb worth of DVD when you set it's target to 4.7 Gb unless the software is only recognizing part of your AVI as valid. Perhaps your AVI has a corrupt spot and Winavi gives up. Alternatively, some video "joiners" do nothing more than copy multiple files into one; they do not actually alter the video or container, so most software will only recognize the first part of an AVI or MPG file. That aside, have you tried tinkering with Winavi's Constant Video Quality settings instead?
I never tried messing with the setting from cucusoft. The other thing I didnt like about the program is how long it took to convert. What settings should I mess with how much should I mess with them on the cucusoft program? I messed with the settings on the WinAVI but it doesnt do anything different. The only time the movie is over the 2.7gb is when its a 2 part movie and I have to join them. Now the other problem im getting but only with this movie is that when I burn it after converting and joining them I dont get any audio on the 2nd part. The audio works on the computer I even play the vob file and it works but when I burn it nothing.
