When WINAVI 7.7 was released a few weeks , I thought they had finally fixed the programs merge function, but NO, the "Merge to DVD" function still does not work, and is broken in Versions 7.0 to 7.7. Version 6.3 works OK and I have now gone back to that again. In WINAVI, the "Merge to DVD" function does NOT MERGE 2 avi files into 1 DVD. In normal English, as I understand it, the words "Merge to DVD" means it must take 2 or more files eg 2xAVI and create 1 DVD. That is the meaning of "Merge" . Winavi does NOT do this at all. WINAVI creates one DVD, but inside the DVD is only ONE of the avi files, that is the last one selected. This means that the program is NOT "merging" 2 files together, it is creating a DVD from one of the files (2nd AVI file) only, and removing the first avi file from the DVD. I was hoping to merge say 3 episodes of a series into one dvd to watch on my DVD player, but WINAVI does NOT work for merging. The only thing that seems to work is if you convert ONE avi into ONE DVD, then it works. Anyone have the same experience or can offer constructive help ? Dymin
Hum, That's funny.... I'm running Ver. 7.6 and it merges two files fine! When I merge two DIVX avi files, the only drawback is that it usually creates a set of DVD files larger than a standard 4.5gb disk. Yes,I could use a dual layer blank disk. Normally I run DVD shrink and compress it about 5% and I'm done.
I have tried many times and yes, it does "appear to merge" and the program actually "seems" to work and creates the DVD files, that is, nothing falls over. BUT and a big BUT, when you try and play the files you will notice that there is only one file converted inside the vobs, and it will be the last one converted. It would have overwritten all the previous ones. Don't be fooled. Try playing the files it creates. What options are you using just out of interest? Dymin
In Advanced settings I use the constant video quality. Quality set to highest, Checkbox checked to split file vob file no higher than 1gig size. I have put Divx or avi and mpeg files together without any problems at all! The only thing that I have seen is.... I captured some Dora the Explorer episodes for my daughter and when I let Winavi convert them to DVD the character motion was jittery. My guess is that the bit rate is too slow. It would be nice to have a real advanced setting for these problems.
