Well if you want Total controll over your encodeing and you want the Very Best Quality at the Lowest bitrate then you have to use an encoder that has Advanced Options for encodeing...

Also Different Types of Files have to be encoded a certan way to get the Best results were programs Like WinAVI seem to Treat all Files the Same...Encoders Like WinAVI are Geared Towards the Consumer Market and Most Consumers do not have any Idea which is the Best way to encode a certain file and Most don"t want to Put in the Time to learn how to use a Proper High end Encoder and Most poeple Can"t really Tell the Differance between a File encoded By a High end encoder or a Consumer Level Encoder accept with a Good High end encoder you can produce a File of the Same or better quality than a Consumer Level encoder but with Half the File size if encoded Correctly.....

I personally use a Very High end professinal Quality encoder that is Very Complicated for the Layman to use (CinemaCraft Encoder SP 2.70) but I can usually Fit 2 Full movies on a Single DVD with as Good or better quality than Most Consumer encoders Can do with Putting one Movie on a DVD....

Also when encodeing to Mpeg-2 instead of encodeing to a Video_TS folder (VOB Files) you have to use a DVD Authoring Program so you can Put the Mpeg-2 file on to DVD which gives you the Option to add your Own Menu"s and Chapters and basicly Make your DVD look More Like a Store Bought Retail DVD but something like WinAVI will Output to a Video_TS which you can Simply Burn to DVD but the DVD doesn"t have any of the Special Features Like Retail DVD"s do.....

Most Poeple who have been Makeing DVD"s For a Long Time start out useing Simple Programs to do there encodeing and DVD Authoring but after a while Poeple Figure out that they can Get Much Better Quality and Smaller File Sizes and Fit much more Video on a DVD if they Learn how to use one of the Professinal Quality encoders and DVD Authoring Programs and learn how to Properly Encoder Files with Different Properties....

Like Take For Instance if you Have an AVI file with a Frame Rate of 23.976fps that is Progressive ,This File would have to be encoded Totally Differently than a AVI file that was Interlaced at 29.976fps but most Consumer Level Encoders will encode both of these Files the same way because they don"t even have the Settings needed so you can encode each File properly depending on the Files Properties.....

In my Opinion there are only a Very small Handfull of Professinal Quality mpeg encoders on the Market that have all of the Settings and Options needed to Properly encode files so you can get the Best Possible Results and they are:

    Tmpgenc Pluss/Express
(Slow but has a Lot of Settings and Options,$50)

    Canopus Procoder/Express
(Slow but Produces very High Quality encodes and has all the settings needed for Proper encodeing, $600 or about $60 for the Express version)

    MainConcept Encoder
(Very fast,Creates very good Quality Mpeg-2 files and Has all of the Proper settings But it does lack any Real filters for Cleaning up the Image ,$150)

    CinemaCraft Encoder SP
(Extremely fast, the very best quality encoder you can get, has very Advanced settings but is Lacking in Support for Multiple File Types and has no Filters so it is best to use with a Frameserver, $2000)

    Cheers
