I have a RMVB video file which has 2 audio tracks in English & French. When playing this video with Real, I can select the audio language I want.

I converted this RMVB into AVI with WinAVI Video Converter. When playing this AVI file, the audio is jammed with both English & French and I can't make any selection.

Is there anything that I've done wrong or any step missing?

Appreciate any of your expertise advice. Thanks.

I don't have Winavi on this computer, so I cannot check the settings, but I guess it muxed the 2 audio streams into one.

What you can do is remove one of the audio tracks that you do not need before conversion. You can use for that RMMuxer.

Regret to say it does not fix the problem. When running RMMuxer, it displayed only 1 audio track instead of 2. But when I play the RMVB file, I can select left or right sound track.

Because you are able to select right or left channel, you should be able to separate them. You can use Audacity to separate the lef/right channel, however, after demuxing the audio from the RMVB file using the RMVBMuxer, Audacity will not accept that audio format(RM audio). It would need to be converted to WAV.Depending on what you use for conversion, I don't know if the 2 channels will be muxed into one or not. Here is some info(I had a similar problem as you, except mine had same audio on both channels, so could not be separated, unlike yours):
