I recently bought WinAvi and when trying to convert Xvid film files into DVD acceptable format I'm receiving the same error message; 'Can't decode this file!may be the file is broken or sytem not install the decoder!' I have installed k-lite mega codec package but I'm still geting the same error and it's happening on all Xvid film files. Can someone please recommend a guide to WinAVi or help me where I'm going wrong? Thanks in advance Justin
Did the k-lite mega codec come with an Mpeg4 Codec? You can download the Mpeg4 Codec for DivX and Xvid here at afterdawn at the below link. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/divx_3_codec.cfm Install it then try converting it.
I've installed it and unfortunately I'm still getting the same error. Is there anyhting else I can try? thanks Justin
Uninstall the DivX Mpeg 4 codec that you just installed and then go to the link below and try that codec. It is for Xvid. XviD codec v1.1.0 for Windows http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
Hi, i have been having the same problem with WinAvi. I have a laptop which i was using to convert Xvid movies to DVD - no problem. Because the laptop does not have a DVD burner i decided to use my desktop to do the work. Installed WinAvi on desktop (i think i have the right to install again at home ?) and i got the error 'Can't decode this file! may be the file is broken or system not install the decoder!' So after 2 weeks of searching forums and trying things i still cannot get it to work. I have installed Xvid codec and ran Avicodec and loaded my movie. It tells me that the audio and video are supported but still gives me the error. I can keep going back to laptop but it is a pain to copy VOB files to desktop via wireless as it takes forever! Tried converting a WMV file to AVI, no problem, then AVI to DVD no problem as i though my AVI splitter was duff. Looks like this isn't the case. I use Nero 7 to burn, but Nero takes forever to convert! Also the laptop already had cyberlink dvd player which is the only thing i haven't tried putting on desktop. Any ideas? I have been reluctant to post as there is normally an answer somewhere out there but after trying everything i am at my wits end and the missus is threatening divorce if i dont get my ar*e of the computer! (sorry for the long post but the rules say explain in detail)
It depends on the software you use and also whether or not you have the latest upgradeable version from the supplier. This problem also affected vso divx to dvd 0.55 and 1.99 but with there newer versions they seem to be able to decode most files so far .Be that divx/avi.xvid. Maybe take a gander at filepedia , theres a link at the nottom of the page and download convert X to dvd and see if this app will be able to go where obviously your winavi cant
I think i have solved my problem, maybe giraffe70 might be able to do the same : I used AVI FourCC changer to change one of the AVI files from xvid to divx and WinAvi worked. This was following the guide on this site (except changing the registry!) http://www.gerusama.com/guide-video.html so i then removed anything to do with xvid from pc and made sure there was no reference to xvid in the FourCC list using avicodec. I removed WinAvi, then installed the complete divx bundle and reinstalled WinAvi, now it works everytime using divx codec on xvid avi's! I made sure that i did a reboot after every step. It worked for me so give it a try. The misleading thing for me was when i loaded an xvid avi into Avicodec, it was saying xvid supported, but obviously WinAvi did not like the codec! I also checked laptop and xvid was not installed so i thought well it works on this so why not the desktop?
