For the last two days Windows 10 has performed an automatic repair when I first boot up. It goes through the extended repair process but the same thing happens when I next boot up. If I press a key before the process starts it loads correctly. How can I avoid this?

Do you have a USB drive or any external hard drives connected, and were any of those drives used on a previous version of Windows?

Yes, I have a couple of small external drives permanently connected to a USB hub for backups, however I have only had them whilst I have been using Windows 10.

disconnect that hub so that windows does not see the drives then restart windows to see if still have issue or not.
