Windows 10: Virtual desktops get a new transition

Microsoft has pushed out an update for Windows 10 that brings the build number to 9860 and with it, there are several improvements over the last build, 9841. One such enhancement is the new transition for virtual desktops that makes it easier to know if you have switched desktops.

If you open up two desktops and switch between them using the keyboard shortcut, Windows Key + Cntrl and then the left or right arrow key, you can see the new animation. If you don't have the new build installed, you can take a look at the video below.



As you can see in the video, there are still some issues with jumping between the desktops with some of the open apps taking a second to appear but this is an early beta and this issue should be fixed before launch. When the video appears to be stuttering, that's what happens when you try to switch desktops very quickly.

This is not the only new animation in build 9860, opening windows have a new 'pop' animation that you can check out here.

While the virtual desktop animation is not the largest of updates, it's a another small addition to the OS that helps to show the progression forward of the platform.
