Hey people, After installing Windows 7 on my crappy old laptop, and it works save for the aero effects, I feel this great need to talk about it! Sorry if this is in the wrong forum I know my other topic is here to. Feel free to move it to the appropriate forum. First of all, When will the Microsoft gang wake up and realize that all of what people really want is a revision of the XP code, to moderize it! Thats it, thats all we want, we want the aero effects on XP [most of us including me] we want future compatibility proof kernal and network applications. We want support for more than 3 gigs of ram and the newest games and apps! lol. I can't think of much more I would want... I have to say it, we all thought windows vista was a joke right? Well this win7 is nothing more than vista 2. I'm sorry. Where is the organization, simplicity and flowabiliity of the OS that was so prevalent in XP?? I like thye flatness of the new taskbar, and have a similar mod on my XP machine but...the no words/no... new taskbar is a joke! If i wanted that i would have gone to a bigmac! Doing everything I wanted to do in Xp usually takes twice as long to get there/accomplish the task in 7. Also like Vista but not quite as bad, Win7 is still a memory hog. Sigh, just realease an aero fx windows shell upgrade pack for xp and i will be more than happy enough. The only thing that is better in my opinion is the looks over XP. But not certain things as i describe above!! Will eventually Microsoft wake up and make go back to the XP code and finally make something NEW AND SHINY we want? Nope they won't. Its funny though, I liked every OS they made up to Xp. What happened Microsoft? -oh and no i don't think it is worth it to intall in on my good machine. just to test out the aero effects. i was tossing it around earlier but nah. lol no point!
Yeah, I hate win 7 too.. and this is the right place to come and moan about it. First of all, I downloaded Win 7 RTM (ready to manufacture) candidate. And I found really many (***** lots of!) bugs in it; 1. When loggin out from hotmail, windows freezes to msn startpage. And this is really annoying because explorer had it on start page! 2. Call of Duty 2 comes up with message "cod2 multiplayer stopped working" after 10min of playing! (why not right away?) 3. And I really hate that downbar! I have to click twice so I can change between messenger and explorer!!! What the heck? D'oh.. I am downloading Vista now. Win 7 is not ready yet, maybe after 1 year (when win 8 comes up =D ). Out.
RTM stands for 'Release To Manufacturing'... Most of the bugs you are running into are due to the fact 90% of your drivers are still in Beta, hence why its just now being RTM'd (so they can finalize them).
I really like Win7. I had Vista on my laptop so the transition was easy. I could see where somebody had been using XP and had issues going to Win7. But Bob Dylan once wrote a song called "The Times They Are A-Changin'"... XP must go away like any other older OS. Drivers will be discontinued for XP in the near future and you will be forced to upgrade anyways.
I dont like the general layout of vista or windows 7, I really liked windows xp due to the simplicity of it. But many tests show the windows 7 is faster than vista and xp while running on the same configuration. so maybe instead of a aero pack for windows xp ,they should release a xp pack for windows 7.
The last time I read Win7 is freshly coded from ground up not from recoding of Vista. IMO XP is stable but the kernel isn't that great compare to Win7. 7 runs very smooth on my ASUS P4C800 P4 2.8g.
Srry.. I always get confused for these terms.. I am using Vista. And I am soon going to see a reason why I should write it to my sig because everyone thinks I'm using XP! Yeah, and situation is same as with windows vista 64bit. No drivers are recoded to fit win 7. "Microsoft is not creating a new kernel for Windows 7. Rather, we are refining the kernel architecture and componentization model introduced in Windows Vista" http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/ne...-for-windows-7-same-requirements-as-vista.ars No new kernel is developed. It's just modification from Vista.
