Ok I may sound stupid, but win 7 will NOT install on my xp machine. Currently i have win xp pro 32 bit and want to change to windows 7 rc 64 bit. I have an amd 64 dual core 9500 processor and 2 gigs of ram, so should run ok when win 7 is installed. Thanks in advance
I was hoping that there was a way to do it without formatting. I'll bet in the retail version there will be an easy way to do this, as there are millions of xp machines out there. Thank you
Are you trying to remove the XP partition(s) in the W7 Installer ?, if so it'll do that for you. It can't resize partitions but it'll happily remove/create partitions, it'll even blow away Linux partitions
It installs fine over XP, you'll need to remove/recreate whatever partitions you need. I've done this fine (twice) on my HP laptop and on a desktop pc.
I'm guessing you're wanting to keep your data and have Windows 7 shove it all in a "Windows old" folder? If you have any way to back up your data (such as to an external drive) then just do that - you'll probably find it easier in the long run than having to go into "Windows old" all the time to find stuff anyway.
