I have Windows 7 RTM from msdn.com so its a legit copy. I have had it installed on my M1730 for about a month or so. This morning it would get stuck on the Starting Windows screen. I put into safe mode and uninstalled my video drivers. Then it works. I tried to install the most up to date ones, it gets stuck again, I uninstall in safe mode and try older ones... no dice... I'm at a loss of what to do here. Any input is appreciated.

It's his laptop in the siggy M1730 8800GTX Sli

Would pay to include what was the original OS & whether 32 or 64bit

You could just leave the graphics card with driver uninstalled & see what windows update gives you

The original os was 32 bit vista. I downloaded the drivers from nVidias website. I also uninstalled those and installed the ones from windows update, still didn't work. I clean them off with driver sweeper so there is no left over registry values. Ive tried last known configuration, and I've tried booting with safe resolution mode. I uninstall the drivers in safe mode, and it boots fine without drivers installed. I was going to try to installed modified drivers from laptopdrivers2go, but I couldn't figured out how to search for my specific video card. Hopefully that will help. If you need anymore information just ask. It was working perfectly fine until it just randomly stopped working. I didn't update any drivers at all. It just decided not to boot one day. I think a lot of other people are having the same problem.

Nvidia would be your only way of getting help since it's their driver,if there is no bug fix then it looks like your back to vista.Any updated driver from nvidia for my older comps AGP 7600gs buggers up my media players, only the provided cd driver works as it should

The reformat didnt work :( I also just tried to install them manually by finding pointing to the folder (extracted from the exe) And it said the install failed, could not read from device. If this is a lost cause just tell me, I just really dont want to have to go back to vista...

I reinstalled vista 32 bit original operating system and I tried the updated drivers, still didnt boot, then I uninstalled them, used driver sweeper and installed the original drivers for the video card... Still didnt boot... I think this may be a hardware issue. If anyone would care to confirm or give a guess that would be great. :(

(covers ears of all my Dell machines, 'there there') :)

Try a linux live cd, and (please take this the right way) in future, never spend so much on a laptop..

No it was the dell one, but they are basically the same thing. I'm in college so I have to have a laptop :( I think its gonna cost more to fix it than to just buy a new one, I'm gonna go with a 15 inch one this time. Are asus laptops any good? I know there motherboards are great, use them in every build.
