I have windows 7 professional installed on a 160gb sata hdd and I also have a 1tb sata drive for storage. Here is my problem. I took out the 160gb hdd and put in a new 500gb sata hdd and installed windows 7 ultimate and left the 1tb drive plugged in the whole time. I deceided to go back to the windows professional so when I plug the 160 gb drive back in it says it can't boot because there is something missing and to put the disc back in and run the fix my computer option. I do that and it comes back with there is nothing wrong. The only way I can get it to boot is to unplugged my 1 tb storage drive. Any clue what could be going on?
Is this why windows created some weird folder in the root of the storage drive (a folder named random name) Will I be able to make the storage drive not a master boot drive in the bios?
guess win 7 does not have boot ini or is incorporated into something else. look in the general & startup tabs at top to see what it shows. click on advanced options tab miidle left side of screen. click on the os boot information box at bottom of screen.
I looked in all the tabs everywhere and can't find anything about ini or info about any hdd's. When I had put in the windows 7 disc and tried the "fix my computer" I realized that I didn't have the storage sata cord plugged into it (duh) so that was why windows could not find anything wrong. When I plugged in the storage drive and ran the disc again it found a problem and repaired it so now it's all good. But I would still like to know what exactly happened in the first place. What is ini? And do you know what this random folder windows created in the root of my storage drive? The folder is named "2b7bedfaedabc6ecd7b792d9" and it has a lock icon on the folder. The folder is empty. Do you know even what this folder is for?
