i was given a PC to fix. the problem was that it wasn't starting at all. after some tinkering in the settings, i set it back to default and it started just fine. but then i get mulitple blue screens, one after the other. when i started it in safe mode, i noticed that it is ridiculously full of icons. they obviously went crazy DLing crap and installing them. so i figure it is full of spyware, adware, and probably viruses(they have kazaa and limewire). side note it is an older PC running ME on a 533Mhz processor. so i figured restore it. but they do not have the disc/s. so i figure since i have heard nothing but how unstable ME is, it might be better to install 98. so i getan old copy of 98 that i don't use any more and tried installing it to no avail. it started but cut short stating something about not being ble to continue. so i go to my next step(not the right one necessarily), i took out the HD, and reformatted it with my PC. i then put it back into the tower and boot up. now it says that tere is a problem with the HD and will not install 98. what did i do wrong and how can i fix it. thanx in advance.
do you have a win98 boot disk? also check the motherboard for the can shaped objects which are capacitors. are they flat topped or domed?
thank you much but i figured it out. i had put te jumpers on the HD incorrectly. i put it to single instead of master and it worked fine.
