I have a sony vaio laptop, every now and then it crashes when its been idle for a little while, i thought it was a bad windows file, but it wasnt, after i reinstalled windows it continued to do the same thing, this happens every 2 weeks, what happens is:
when i leave the computer, i come back to it, and its crashed, what else?? The fan is running very fast, is it a cooling problem, no i used a temperature checker straight after the crash to check if the temperature was too high.
So has anyone got any ideas why this is happening?

welll...i was thinking about the heat, but yeah, perhaps your having processor problems, and yeah, after you reinstall windows, what softwares do you install afterwards

I have a very big list of applications running on my machine, i can estimate around 100 different applications, the strange thing is it happens when the computer is left alone, and it happens very rarely, but when it does happen, i think why, the reinstall didnt help it in any way, could it be hardware i have connected, i remember this problem started near enough when i got my wifi pcmci card for my laptop, before that it was okay.

yeah, that may be the case, also apps can someway change how the pc operates too...but yeah it can be the wifi card you installed since you mentioned it, try using the pci card on a different comp. and see if thats the problem
