I have 2 external hard drives connected (USB) to my PC. I was receiving a WINDOWS - DELAYED WRITE FAILED pop-up when I tried to transfer data from one external hard drive to my PC hard drive (My Documents/My Videos/Media Literacy Final Filmclips). The only way "around" this problem was to "turn off" the external hard drive, then turn it back on, open the file folder where I wanted to move files, and move a file one at a time until the error message appeared again, and repeat the process. This, however, was taking forever, as I was trying to move video/movie clips (some as long as 20 minutes) from the external hard drive to my PC hard drive. After searching all over the Internet, and trying the PC Help program for a solution to this problem, trying several options offered on the Internet, I finally figured out why this error message was appearing and corrected the problem WITHOUT buying a new hard drive, without having to buy anything new, and with only a few clicks of the mouse! 1) Open My Computer 2) RIGHT-CLICK on the external hard drive where you have received the "Windows - Delayed Write Failed" notice, and click on PROPERTIES. 3) In the GENERAL tab, click on DISK CLEANUP, and make certain that ONLY the "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching" window is checked. 3) Click on the "SHARING" tab at the top. 4) In this new window, click on the "If you understand the risk but still want to share the root of the drive, click here." 5) In the Network sharing and security section of this tab, click the box "Share this folder on the network" and use the "default" Share name: Letter of your hard drive. 6) Click on the APPLY button at the bottom. 7) You will need to restart your computer for the new changes to take place.
I have no idea, but it worked up until I tried moving larger files....larger than 1.5GB each. Then it was back to the same.
what a load of crap..turn on indexing ??,sharing?? huh !..lmao.. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330174 http://bermangraphics.com/problems/delayedwritefailure.htm http://www.howtonetworking.com/articles/writefailed.htm You could try in safe mode but either way i'd swtch off one of the externals for now,not that you should need too,the only other solution if i was in your shoes would be to run check disk on both externals then do a reformat & reinstall of my c drive,i know it's drastic but when things like this happen it usually fixes it for me EDIT: Not sure unchecking write caching on c drive would be a good idea, but as for the externals then yes it's how i have mine configured coz a crash can corrupt the boot record of that external drive, you could always shove the drive inside the pc if you have a lot of data to transfer
