Okay this is the second comp in my sig...the 800 mhz amd. I bought a nice new nifty adapter here

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5871580669&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1

It basically is a convertor so you can use a sata 150 drive hooked into a ide port. Anyway the bios see the drive fine as 80 gig. Windows setup seen and formatted the drive fine without additional drivers. Then the trouble began when it rebooted to finish installing. The bios finds the boot record and says its ok...then just hangs. Doesnt even attempt to load and the drive is quiet so I cant tell if it even is loading or not. Im going to try clearing cmos and see what happens. But I doubt thats it. Any ideas?

No I didnt load no sata drivers ddp. The device didnt come with a drivers disc and windows saw the drive during install. So I figured that sata drivers was unecassry.:> I still tried clearing cmos and no help. Maybe this adapter aint no good or the asus mobo on the 800 dont like it.

Yeah thats what I was thinking DDp. Just was being lazy for a moment is all. <SMILE> Thanks!

    EDIT

Well I hooked up the drive and adapter to the first machine and it wont boot off the drive. Although I didnt retry to install windows. So thats the next step. But the adapter does seem to be working. Cause I can see all the windows files on it. So the drive and adapter has got to be working. But maybe this adapter aint bootable. Hmm.....

Turned out it was the drive itself. After three consecutive full formats and 6 hrs later its fine. It must have been bad sectors and or the boot mbr was fryed. Thanks DDP!
