I have video clips done in Windows Movie Maker. This program generates the file extension .mswmm I have been trying to find a way to put these clips on DVD, with little (correction NO success) Is there a conversion program out there some where that can do the job. You would think that an embedded Windows Based program that is probably widely used (or not) would supply some info on saving to DVD in it's Help files,,,but it doesn't. Thanx, w.rowe
Corrct me if im wrong, but isnt that extension not for a windoes movie maker saved project? Have you tried finishing your project and outputting it as a wmv? Once thats done you ca use one of many converters that will output your file to dvd.
Windows Movie Maker can handle all kinds of files (avi, wmv, wma, asf, mpg, etc., etc.) but when you save the completed project, it saves it to the default file extension - .mswmm I have yet to come across a program that can deal with this file extension. I've tried NERO, DVD SANTA, WINDVD, SONIC and a few others. I,m begining to think that it is probably pointless to even use Windows Movie Maker (although I like the program very much) because it just seems impossible to save the finished program to DVD.
I have made a few projects with windows movie maker, its very simple and effective for making the old family movies. Its been a while since i have used it so i just had a quick recap now From what i can see, you cannot output your projects to dvd. I think what you are doing wrong is saving the project that can only be read by windows movie maker. You are not saving any video at all, only the project information so that WMM can put the project back to the way you had it when you saved. When you finish your project, look over at the left hand side of the screen where it says 3. Finish movie. You will then need to click save to my computer. It will give you the option to name your video and where to store it. Following this you will get the video output options. I recommond you use The DV-AVI option as it will provide the best quality as it has the largest resolution and bitrate. However the bitrate is 30Mbps, so just over 3 seconds of video will use up 100mb storage space! If thats too much, select an option with a high bitrate and resolution to try and keep the quality as best as possible. Click next and the video will begin to come together! Be warned though, the output time could be quite long depending on the video size. From there you will need to convert your video to dvd. There are tons of software that will do this job. i recommend vso's convertxtodvd. Its fast, simple and produces reasonably high quality dvd video. Of course, this slightly longer process will reduce overall video quality, but as far as im aware, this is your only option when using windows movie maker. If you like the feel of WMM, you should try out cyberlinks power directoe (I think!), its very similar to WMM with a few extra features in it too. If your familiar with WMM, then you should find it a breeze and it can output to dvd too! Hope this helps
Thank You Menz83. You have shown me the error of my ways and steered me in the right direction. Many Thanks.
