Hi, when i go to the windows update site it scans my PC but only gives me 24 critical updaes to download, it usually gives me 101 on my first visit after a windows re-install, the one's i did download do not show up in add or remove programs when the show updates box is ticked. I did a re-install of windows because i couldn't update at all before because the problem could not be corrected when i found out what it was. When i installed windows on an old pata 40GB hard drive and went to the windows update site it gives me the 101 critical updates as normal and they show up in add or remove programs if i download and install them.. All test on my new sata hard drive show no signs of any errors etc.
moved to correct forum as not a build a pc issue. xp home? check for updates again as laptop i'm working on had same problem. redid check for updates & it installed installer 3.1, restart & found 77 more updates.
