Hello All, I have installed Windows Vista OS on my desktop. The OS keeps on creating various backups (Restore points etc) and is clogging up my harddrive. Though I have 500gbs disk space, yet I have to cleanup (using Disk cleanup unders Properties) the disk to get rid of 100s of gbs of this data quite frequently. Is there a way to reduce the amount Windows Vista can be limited to write to the disk drive?? OR turn off this facility.?? I know that this must be discussed a lot... but a quick help is appreciated. Thanks.
System Restore only adds restore points when there has been a change to OS & Program files. My worst offenders are Microsoft's Automatic Updates, Cyberlink Automatic Updates, HP Automatic Updates and and other Automatic updates to a lesser degree. I changed them all to manual or on demand and noticeably cut down on the restore points. I did leave Norton's AV on automatic.
If you disbale system restore, make sure you use a imaging software to backup your c: drive at least once a week. (macrium reflect works with vista). I disable system restore on all my computers and just rely on image backups to restore me in case I run into problems. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-system-restore-in-windows-vista/
