Has anyone tried windows vista yet? I have RC1 and i will install my regular apps tonight and start testing them. I was just wondering if nayone else has already done this and know what works and what doesn't. I am going to install :

    Dvd Decrypter
    Dvd Shrink
    Fairuse Wizard
    Dvd Fab Decrypter
    Avi2Dvd

If anyone has already tried this, please let me know if yours works or not.....thanks.

Why would you want to? It's a downgrade, not an "upgrade". I haven't seen anything different other than the "Aero" interface and that eats your system resources alive.

BTW, if your intention is to "do backups" then Vista is specifically designed to prevent that. While I can't comment on DVD rippers, stuff like FairUse4WM probably won't work - at least not if Vista works as intended - because the entire purpose of Vista and other TCA-based OS' is to prevent people from using low-level debuggers and routine traps and such to evade decryption and authentication mechanisms.

I have WVRC1 and don't use it one bit. Most programs arn't compatable. Don't get me wrong some are but these test releases are more for the windows team to find bugs in there own program. They already know how to allow other programs work in windows. This release is more for security evaluation and hype for there product. On the other hand it is a "so called" fast operating system but it says that explorer is slowing down my start up so they reccomend that I delete IE from my start menu. Does that make any sence?

my buddy used vista for a little while and could not get several pieces of hardware to work, such as an external DVD burner. nor could he get nero to run on it either.

I had the release candidate version of Vista installed a while ago, and it was generally pretty slick, as the compatibility was fine, the user interface was good, but the reason i removed from my machine a few days later... was because IT MAKES YOUR COMPUTER SOOOOO SLOW!!!

i dont know what the reason for this is, whether it's because of all the fancy graphics or what not, but once more than 2 programs are opened, it virtually becaomes unusable! (and i have a 3.2Ghz intel processor, 1.5Gb RAM, overclocked nVidia 6800 ultra etc... so should be more than enough to run vista...)

my advise.. stay with XP until a proper version of Vista is released that it desgined to run faster...
