You could try use File Recover and try to recover some files before formatting.Otherwise there is no other way.Your usb is stuffed up(I have experienced this so I know) and needs to be formatted or thrown away.

How do you use file recovery?

My friend could access the memory stick pro duo (Not USB) because he put files on it of up to 7.5gb. When I click "Do you want to format the disk?" It said it only had 3.54 gb available for use.

Download the software from here. When you open the software check your usb for scanning and it will try and recover some files.
Or you can try this software.

Guys it's NOT A USB. He's talking about a memory stik.

    yugi532:
It could easily be a fake MS Pro Duo as there a more of those than flies in the Amazon Rainforest. Even I've had one of them, worked fine for like 2 weeks than it died.

One sure-fire way to test if it is, is to load it into a PSP if you have one, turn it on and hit the triangle button and select "Information".
If it says MagicGate is not supported it's a fake.

You can also tell if the printing on it looks very faded or worn out and the packaging has no hologram.
    Hope this helps.

As long as it could connect to the computer then he can do what I've asked him to do.

Thank you bulldogz. I have now recovered all the files off the memory stick pro duo (Not USB) but it is still having the same problem. When I try and format it, it says that the maximum capacity is 3.54gb. I have also tried formatting it with a sony memory stick formatter but windows still says it has not been formatted. I have also tried it with a PSP's formatter but with no luck.

Did you try what I said about verifying that it's not a fake.
If you have a PSP try it out. It's a sure fire way to tell.

    I was glad to help.
Now to fix the other problem. Try formatting it again but set the option to FAT32 and see what happens.Don't worry about the space. At least you have some.
