i have recently taken my hdd out of my computer and formated and installed winodws on it using a much older pc and when i went to put it back in my new pc just after it detects the hdds i message appears saying "NTLDR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart".
Does anyone know what this could mean?

Try this link for xp home edition-http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxphome/installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm
and this one is for xp-pro-http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxppro/installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm step by step instructions. It's usually better to install windows after you re-install the hard drive into the original computer. Try out the link and best of luck.
