i just bought a new pc, AMD Athlon64 X2 DualCore 4400+, Asus A8S-X, 2GB DDR400, Radeon X1900XTX 512DDR3. I instaled Windows XP 64, but was wondering what would give me better performance, Windows XP 64bit or 32bit ? anyone knows ?
go for standard 32 bit, ive heard no end of complaints and problems with 64 bit windows... its simply not worth buying.
Id go for XPx64 meself. I did and it works much better than x32 version. x64 has its isssues thats a given but that cant be blamed solely on Microsoft (cant believe I just defended MS lol) MS gave software vendors/publishers plenty of notice ahead of time the rls date for XP x64 yet the publishers didnt do much and still arent. Many still consider x64 a niche market so its a fad not worth wasting the time and money to develope software for. Anywho,, try going over to http://www.planetamd64.com/ , http://www.ukgamer.com/article.php4?action=win64 for more info on XP x64
If you want a 64 bit OS, go for Linux. A lot of manufacturers just aren't making drivers for 64 bit Windows (*shakes fist at NETGEAR*), and it will just make your life a bitch. At least the Linux community actively work at hacking together drivers for manufacturer unsupported devices. I've gone back to 32 bit and am much happier. Stick to 32 bit and wait for Vista.
64 bit is better than 32 bit but i couldnt get ant 64 bit drivers for my modem so i went back to my 32 bit
