Hi- I was trying to reinstall windows xp and thngs were going ok when I got an error saying " windows/system32/config/system" file not found on a blue screen. I can not boot up past this or continue or cancel the install. Plese help me !! How can I fix this?
Yes, I have tried. When I hit 'r' it sounds like it shuts off and then comes to a blue screen that says -stop 0x0000000a( 0x020E000F,0x00000002,0x000000000,0x807CB954 or I get the black screen with the " windows/system32/config/system" missing file. I have also tried cancelling the install- it doesn't allow it. I have tried 2 copies of Xp and neither helped me get past the above error. The ram is not a problem because it I switch harddrives the computer runs fine. Anything else you can offer would be appreciated!
try reinstallin the xp again..but this time reformat the drive..... delete the partition with the windows...and install a fresh new copy
I really don't want to format as there are some documents and stuff I really need off the harddrive- and no I don't have anything backed up lol- and when I connect the 2 hdd's together I can not acess these files as soon are in my email program. Any other suggestions?? Thanks!
well, what kind of files do you need to back up??? www.box.net has 1gb of free storage, I do prefer gmail drive, but box let you put bigger files.
I have my income tax returns for the last 3 years on the hdd and I am using Incredimail and have reciepts from items bought and paid for online that I haven't received yet. I can't get into the files to copy them tho- hence why I don't want to format unless absolutely no other way. But thanks I will check out those site for future use. A lesson is being well learned ....lol
You can always try to boot into a "Live" version of Linux and recover the files that way. I would recommend Knoppix for file recovery. If you'd like more information about this method, just ask.
Go here: http://www.knoppix.org/ Follow the link to the Downloads. The download listing should look like this: KNOPPIX_V5.0.1CD-2006-06-01-EN.iso 02-Jun-2006 16:49 696M Translated: It's version 5.0.1 in CD format. It's in English. The realese date is 1 June 2006 and it was posted 2 June 2006 @ 16:49. The file size is 696MB. Be sure to get the latest version and one that is in English (EN). Chose one that is close to you. Download the file. It will be large (close to 700 MB) and in ISO format. Use your software burning program to burn the ISO to a CD. Leave the CD in the burner when completed and reboot. During boot, you should see something to the effect of "Press any key to boot from CD..." Don't wait long or it will disappear. Just press a key and it will boot into Linux. After the boot is completed, you should be able to access your Windows files. Note: It will not be called the C:\ drive but rather something else. Just look for it.
