Using a guide off here, I have identified and disablded some 'start up' applications that i didnt require starting everytime I boot the computer.

Everytime I now boot the computer i get a message saying the computer is in 'diagnostic'mode and I need to select 'normal' mode and re-enable the changes, from the system configuration utility screen.

Is this normal when making changes of this kind?

    Thanks

That's normal. There should be a box to check: "Don't show this message again". Next time try using CCleaner > Tools > Startup to enable, disable, or delete program entries from the list. Better yet, go to each program's options or preferences list to prevent opening at startup.
