For your Captured file to Be DVD Compliant you have to capture to Mpeg2 at 720+480 for NTSC or 720+576 for Pal..You also have to capture the audio at 48000hz for it to be DVD Compliant...
The Video Bitrate you use to Capture would depend on how Long the Movie is ,For a 90 minute movie you would use a Video capture Bitrate of about 6400KBS and an audio Bitrate of 384kbs ,For a 2 hour movie you would use a Video bitrate of 4700kbs and an audio bitrate of 384kbs....
After you have captured the Mpeg2 file at those settings you just need to use a DVD authoring program like DVDLab or Tmpgenc DVD author to add your Menu"s and Chapters and to burn the DVD....

But beware that Many Poeple experience Sync problems with there Captured files after authoring them to DVD when useing the WinFast Capture software to capture there Files, If you have this problem then you should use different capture Software like WinDVR 3.0....

You also need to have a Pretty Fast PC to capture full resolution Mpeg2 files so about 2.0ghz is needed for Full res Mpeg2/DVD Capture.....

    Cheers

Thanks for the help I was able to capture it according to your directions. But I tried to burn it using nero 6.0 which it won't allow me to do. It looks for an iso file? How can I burn this MPG file onto DVD and allow it to lay in my house DVD player Thanks? I don't need to put chapters on this particular home video. So I just want to burn it Thanks

You can"t Just Burn the File to a DVD and Have it Play, DVD"s don"t work the same way as VCD"s...

Nero Doesn"t Make Video DVD"s ,It will burn the ISO or Video_TS Folder to DVD but you have to make the Video_TS Folder first and to do that you MUST use a DVD Authoring Program .....

So if you want to Put this file on a DVD and expect it to play you are going to have to get yourself a DVD Authoring program which will also burn the DVD for you as well as Format it with any Menu"s and Chapters that you may or may not add to your movie...

DVDLab and Tmpgenc DVD author both have 30 day Demo"s available and both will do what you need done...DVDLab is more complex but it makes nicer DVD"s but Tmpgenc DVD Author is the Easiest to learn...

No No No....The File is allready in Mpeg2 format so it doesn"t need to be Encoded...You have to Author Mpeg2 Files to DVD NOT Burn Them so you have to use "Tmpgenc DVD author" (NOT the Encoder) To Author the Files to DVD...It will allow you to add Chapters and Menu"s and Format it all into a "Video_TS" folder and Burn it to DVD...

The DVD Authoring Program Makes Vob,IFO, and BUP files out of the Mpeg2 file and Puts them in a "Video_TS" Folder, This is the Structure the DVD has to have for it to Be read by your DVD Player..
After formating the Files it will Burn the Video_TS folder to DVD For you OR you can use a seperate Program to burn the Video_TS Folder to DVD...

I hope you are Starting to understand now??

    Cheers

Thanks for clearing that up I was using tempenc. I still have errors with temp author but I am trying to fix it now. Question why can't I hear the sound? I followed the way Leadtek says set it up for sound but it doesn't work. Its def a hookup problem I fiddled with a number of ways and still no audio. Thanks

Well I am using TMPGEnc DVD Author and I try to put my MPG2 capttured file as stated above and get an error stating that the video resolution 640 X 480 cannot be used for a standard video. It also gives me resolutions to use which I used to capture the files again and try it with the same error messages? Also video framerate 29.97 fps cannot be used with 640 X 480? Why is this so difficult. I did this before on my older computer like 6 months ago and now I can't get a simple MPG2 file into an ISO file to burn it.

You did not capture your Video files to the Correct Resolution...
If you remember my first reply to your Post I said you have to capture at 720+480, I guess you didn"t set it to that Resolution but you set it to 640+480 which is not a DVD compliant Resolution...
So you are going to have to Re-Capture the Movie useing the Correct Resolution....

The reason why there isn"t any audio could be a few things Like you do not have the "Line In" port selected as the Audio source when captureing...
You have to select the correct Audio port in your Capture software and In Windows....

It is Pretty simple to make a DVD you just have to know there are certain Rules you have to follow so that your Captured files are going to be DVD Compliant...

You should also know that when useing the LeadTech Capture software there is a Good chance that after Burning to DVD the Video and Audio will be out of Sync because there is a Bug in the Capture software and the only to solve this is to use different capture software...

    Cheers

Well you should wait and see if you have that problem but if you do I suggest useing Intervideo WinDVR 3.0..
It captures from allmost any capture device and the Quality is very good...It also has a Number of different DVD Capture profiles so it is hard to screw up buy makeing a Non DVD Compliant File....
You need a pretty Fast PC to use the Software ,Like at least 2.0 ghz at full resolution...

So it is still saying that the resolution is 640+480 when you set it to 720+480???

Well I don"t see why it would say that the resolution is still 640+480 unless it really was 640+480...

If you load your Captured Mpeg2 file into Virtual-Dub-Mpeg2 and then go to "File" to "File Information" it will tell you everything about your Mpeg2 file Includeing the Resolution and Framerate and Length and audio format and sample Rate...

    You can download it here:
    Virtual-Dub-Mpeg2
    http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/VirtualDub-MPEG2.zip

So try that and then Post back as to what it says about your File......

You never Know maybe your Card can"t capture at 720+480 which might be the case if it uses the Conexant BT878A Decoder chip....

ok thanks I see that. I think when I selected the correct format it didn't save I tried it it worked on one that I had previously saved I didn't retry it yet but I notice that I still have an audio problem that I would like to correct first. I don't see Line in as an option as stated above. Can someone help me out with how to get my audio working correctly? Thanks

Well first make sure Windows is set up to record from the Line in or Microphone Input on your sound card...
To do this first right click the Volume Icon in your Taskbar and then go to "Open Volume Control" and then go to "Options" to "Properties" and check the Box next to "Recording" and then Put a Check next to the Audio Input you are useing (Line In or Mic) and then click "OK" ,Now go to the Input you are useing to capture the audio from and put a check in the "Select" Box and then put the Recording volume up to about 75% and that is it....
Now try to capture and see if there is sound in the Captured file...
I haven"t used the WinFast PVR software so I can"t tell you were the device settings are in the software but there should be settings were you can select the Audio input you are recording from....

OK...Go to "Start" to "Controll Panell" to "Sounds & Audio Devices" and put a check next to "Place Volume Icon in the Taskbar" and click "Apply" then "OK" ..Now you should see the Volume Icon in the Taskbar and you can check your audio settings....

    Cheers
