I've read about the method of rebuilding a PS2 game (that needs rebuilding) using:

    DVD Decrypter
    ISOBuster
    CD/DVD-ROM Gen
    Apache2

What I want to know is, can I use WinRAR instead of ISOBuster? Someone mentioned it can be a little while back I think.
I want to know as I've already got WinRAR installed and I'd rather not install and buy ISOBuster if I can use my existing software - WinRAR.

    Thanks.

You don't need ISObuster just use apache 2 and cddvdgen to rebuild and build your ISO.

Every guide I've read here says you need ISOBuster for rebuilding because it extracts files from ISO in a certain, important order. I just wanted to know if WinRAR can do the same.

isobuster and nero are the best tools for rebuilding. I have never used CD/DVDGEN or Apache2 and i have never come across any problems without using them.

@EzyDuzIt - On ya recently backed up games you got From Russia With Love, and you use swapmagic, coz I use swapmagic and sometimes it loads really slow and generally plays up. Have you had any problems with yours? Im using Ritek go5 -r and dont see any reason for it to play up. And how do you rebuild an iso using nero?

devios, there are two reasons for me being hesitant about ISOBuster.

    1) I don't want to install more software if I already have software that can do the job (like I said in my original post). A lot of people install software when they have adequate software already, just because someone else said it's good. They install it without knowing exactly what it does. I prefer to be informed. :)

    2) A couple of people said it's not free, there's a 300mb limit for unregistered users. It seems this is not true, or no longer true so that's good.

Conclusion, looks like I'll install it as no-one knows if WinRAR can be used. I would think that the order in which the files appear in ISOBuster - which is important, may appear incorrectly or something WinRAR, or that no-one has experience of using this software for this task.

2kwic, the correct order in which the files and folders appear in ISOBuster is apparantly important for the next steps so most would disagree with you.

EzyDuzIt, I would much prefer to just use Nero and ISOBuster but I've read that Nero can't deal with individual files which are 2GB or over in size and that this is a problem with some PS2 games as some have files larger than 2GB.

Also EzyDuzIt, could you post how you backup up Need For Speed Most Wanted so I can see how you personally backup. Thanks. :)
