When I go to System Properties > Automatic Updates the page is 'greyed out'.
The thing is set (locked) to "Automatic: download updates every day at 5:00PM".
    WTF is this!?
I have had to go into services, and disable Automatic Updates.
    I hate Automatic Updates.
Why is this settings page greyed out - what could possibly cause it to do this?
The PC is 100% virus/spyware free, patched & updated, and firewalled.
    Why? Why?
Driving me to drinkin' LoL :^)
C'mon people - has anyone ever encountered this before?

The page will be greyed out if you have disabled it in services..........

Is what you are saying is that it is locked to receive them at 5pm and is greyed out irrespective of the operation selected in services?

Here is a link for an installable link on line 179 of the page (right hand side)

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

This one gives you some info to go in the registry

    Fantastic!! :^)
I probably could've Googled for this myself and found some info - but Baabaa YOU D'MAN ;^)
    Just to clarify:
First, it was greyed-out stuck on Automatic.
THEN I disabled it in services (twas the only way to stop the damn thing).
    Thanks again Sir B.

Well, I hope the info helped you out.

I have not experienced that issue (yet!), and I have been using SP2 for some time now, but I have earmarked those links for future reference.

Yes just did some 'googling', actually quite interesting to read some of the comments especially regarding SP2 and what services it actually changed etc......

    Have a good one.......................baaaaaa!

    Update: Worked! ;^)
Hey that Kelly's Korner link is a wonderful thing - the Line 179 worked like a fookin' charm, and there is all kinds of info on that site.
I also downloaded a REG that promises to fix that 'Windows shutdown while registry was not unloaded' message, seen often in Event Viewer.
    I could KISS you Baabaa
(but only if it's okay with Big Ed...)
    LoL
