I want to connect my xbox wirelessly, and I have a wireless G router. I was wondering if somehow I could install the chip into my xbox or if I had to buy the MIcrosoft made adapter that costs $100 (I can get the chip for 50)
Well the good news is you don't need to buy the M$ Addapter, if you don't want to. I was able to pickup a NETGEAR WGE111, for around €80.00(EUR),. While I was able to spot better deals on eBay those were mostly for B-Class Devices (e.g. 11Mb/s), which were going for around €30.00 ~ €50.00(EUR),. You need to connect it up to your PC though a Crossover Cable (to set it up e.g. SSID, WEP / WPA Key(s) et-al), though. But, once you have done that and you have your Wireless Router also setup. You'll never need to have your PC turned on to watch streaming Video(s) from the 'Net, much less to be able listion in on Shoutcast Radio. Although I do not have Live! I can not think of any reasion why that shouldn't work. As for Kai? Well I don't have One of those NETGEAR Routers that your soposed to use with Kai. So I'd guess I'd still have to connect though the PC for those occasions...
I think the MS wireless network adapter is a bit too pricey but it is nice and small that goes on the back USB and is easy to setup
You can pickup a crossover cable at bestbuy, circuit city, wherever. Electronic type stores like that.
Now unless your one of the lucky Ones to actualy have an early XBOX 360°™. Or your some kind of Moding god with madskilz or something. Could you please point me to the rear USBx.x Port on the XBOX™? Up till now I thought that your standard XBOX™ only had Three Connections on the Back. 1) The AC Mains, 2) The A/V Out and 3) a 10/100 (CAT-5e)Ethernet Port Jack. Hummm nope no USB here... BTW to the OP: You shouldn't have to buy a Cable I can't speak for the Microsoft Branded version (as it's practicly unavalible here in Germany), But the NETGEAR did come with a Crosover (Patch Cord) ca. One Foot, maybe Two Feet. Granted it's not long enough to get from the PC to the XBOX™. But, I thought this Thread was about 802.11G. You'd only have to connect this thing up to your PC the One time in order to 'secure'it after the same fassion as you would if this were a Laptop or a PSP™ Basicly you'd configure your Router to filter the MAC Address of the Gameing Adapter (that's what your looking for BTW), and then with the info that came with your Gameing Adapter you'd configure your new Device, with the appropriate information. (i.e. The SSID ~Should you be useing anything other then *WLAN*! And or any WEP or WPA Key(s) VERY IMPORTANT!),.
Actually it doesn't take mad skills to put a usb port on your xbox. Xbox controller ports are USB ports...just disguised as what they are. Red, green, yellow, white, black. Yellow is dead wire. Just match em up and you have a usb port! Anyway, I would go with the wireless bridge with crossover cable. That is especailly practical if you have a laptop, because then you can move it around your place with your laptop and play anywhere. Otherwise, wallmart has the wireless G game adapters usually for around 50 dollars. If you have a PC and want to play in the other room, that's a good way to go.
Yes I was aware of that, I was refering to this comment: AFAIK: There *IS NO* USBx.x on the Backside of the XBOX™! Could be I misunderstood what he ment. In anycase Let's say for aguments sake that you could connect a Wireless NIC (USBx.x of course!), to the XBOX™. Praytell how you get such a beast to work with out an XBOX™ specific Driver to run it with. I'd immgine it would work well enough under XBOX™ *nux. But, this is not mearly a hore of a different Color. But, an entirely different beast. The Netgear and Microsoft solutions arn't cheap but granted. But, they work! And well at that. I could in theory use my Network Adapter on any thing includeing another PC (that's within range), to 'talk' to my Router. And beeing able to watch Internet Streaming Video with the PC turned off is a major Thumbs up!!
