    It depends on the kit and the actual location.
    Thickness of walls, design, metal in area.
    Most manufacturers give a guide on their spec sheets.
    Its normally about 1500 feet though.

    try setting the wireless router in the closes window to your work or setup outside but not seen by anybody.

    If you are even going to have a chance at a CLEAR CONTINUOUS SIGNAL the furthest that any Wireless router distance now has out on the market is “Pre-N” such as Belkin's Pre-N Wireless Router and with a Pre-N card can give you a max distance. It is around 8x’s the distance of a normal wireless router when both router and card are used.

    Here is a link on this unit which I also have...

    They are tricky;
    I have been installing wireless 'G' LANs furiously this month, everybody wants a wireless network (for Christmas?)
    I use Linksys WRT54G router. Sometimes I'll get good signal strength, sometimes not so good over even shorter distances, unpredictable.
    I need to learn more about the channels. I don't expect any major congestion in most of the rural residential settings I might setup a network in, but in a high-density apartment building in a city I'm gonna need a tool for measuring channel activity.
    I believe attention to details such as placement and antenna orientation, and careful channel selection, will achieve the greatest possible wireless range.
    Wish I could link you to a wireless software toolkit that would diagnose your channels, but I'm looking for one myself...
    Anyone? (Bueller?) LoL
    When I learn more I'll post back,
