I have 3 computers in my house, one (downstairs) is hooked up to the modem and there is another laptop upstairs that we dont have problems with but there is another computer that is hooked up just to a wireless router (the ethernet cord goes from the computer into the 1 port on the router (not the WAN port the 1 port) (nothing is hooked up into the WAN) The second I do that all the wireless computer/laptops cannot connect to the internet plzzzz help!!!!!!!
you might need to do settings.. u using PPoE (ISP) need to connect using password / username? using which router? log in to the router with the default password n user name (u can find in yr manual for help / reset the hardware if u forgotten) inside there is a page to key your username n password for ISP .. if u have, and save .. of course u can have Domain IP for isp keyed. also for protection i can consider a wireless security.... WEP key .. to prevent ppl from hijacking yr network bandwidth .... (speed) and laptops / wireless connection will need the WEP key u added to connect to your network. apologies if u can't understand as im feeling unwell, but i can still help u. it beeter if u can tell me the router specification as to help u easier =). cheers good luck have a nice day
It is hard to determine exactly what the setup is. But if I am correct, you normally connect a PC to the internet via a adsl modem, and then this is connected to a wireless router which is acting as am acces point for the other PCs to connect to the internet via your pc attached to the modem. You then remove the adsl connection from the pc modem and connect it to the wireless router. This still has a connection to the local pc via ethernet cable, so this pc still maintains internet access. The other pcs however are still set up to get to the internet via the pc not the router, so they loose the connections. If so, just change the remote pc settings to ensure that the default gateway is the wireless router, and that the ip addresses are unique, and they can ping the routers address and connect to the console port. But more info on the exact settings on each device would help to get a better idea of the problem.
